Discussion with the officials of the Confucius Institute at the University of Colombo
On May 3rd, 2023, the Director of the Confucius Institute at the University of Colombo, Prof. Ma Zhongwu, and the Sinhalese Director, Dr. Anuththaradevi Widyalankara, met with the Vice Chancellor of the Buddhist and Pali University of Sri Lanka, Senior Professor Ven. Neluwe Sumanawansa Thero, to discuss the state of Chinese language studies and ways to improve Chinese language teaching at Buddhist and Pali University. During the meeting, Prof. Ma indicated that the university would receive support from Chinese volunteer teachers, and students would be encouraged to apply for scholarships offered by the Chinese government. He also expressed interest in arranging a student exchange program between the Buddhist and Pali University and a suitable Chinese university. The Vice Chancellor, Senior Professor Ven. Neluwe Sumanawansa Thero; the Dean of the Faculty of Language Studies, Dr. Swarnanada Gamage; the Head of the Department of Language Skills Development, Dr. Indiwaree Wickramasinghe; and Senior Lecturer Ms. Nimali Priyangika from the Department of Language Skills Development were present at the event.
