Buddhist and Pali University of Sri Lanka will entertain applications from qualified candidates for the following post up to 04.01.2021.
Applications are invited from eminently qualified Bhikkhus who are well versed in Discipline and Doctrine in Buddhist Studies and Pali to take over the leadership of the Buddhist and Pali University of Sri Lanka as its Venerable Vice-Chancellor according to the provisions of the Buddhist and Pali University Act No. 74 of 1981 as amended by the Buddhist and Pali University of Sri Lanka (Amendment) Act No. 37 of 1995. The appointment is for a period of three years. The applicants should be citizens of Sri Lanka.
The Head Office of the university is located at No 37, Moragahahena Road, Pitipana, Homagama.
Venerable Vice-Chancellor is a full time officer of the university. He shall be the Principal Executive Officer, the Principal Academic Officer and the Accounting Officer of the university. He shall be an ex-officio member and Chairman of both the Council, and the Senate.
The applicant should not be over 62 years of age as at 04.01.2021. The Vice-Chancellor shall, unless he vacates office earlier or removed from office in terms of the University Act, holds office for a term of three years until he completes his sixty fifth year, whichever occurs earlier.
The Venerable Vice-Chancellor will be responsible for providing academic leadership, formulating and introducing management policies and implementing the decisions of the Council. He will be responsible for the general administration of the university and in doing so, he will uphold the principles of academic excellence, transparency, accountability, democratic, management and effective nonpartisan leadership.
The successful candidate should possess a record of high academic achievement including a strong research profile, proven leadership qualities and interpersonal skills to interact objectively with diverse interest groups, a clear understanding of policy issues and a commitment to the effective implementation of decisions. The Venerable Vice-Chancellor should also possess a deep understanding of the ethos and mission of the university including commitment to the community (prospective applicants/nominators are invited to visit the university website www.bpu.ac.lk for details regarding the applications & nominations).
The Venerable Vice-Chancellor is eligible to be placed at the highest academic salary scale and be paid other allowances approved by the University Grants Commission. He will be provided an official vehicle with fuel allowance and residential facilities in the University premises.

2. A Master’s Degree in Library & Information Science obtained after a full-time course of study of at least two academic years duration(or an equivalent part- time course of study) with a research component by way of thesis/dissertation or a Doctoral Degree;
And
3. Publications in the field of Library and Information Sciences.
And
4. At least fifteen (15) years’ experience after obtaining a first degree or at least ten (10) years after obtaining the qualification at (2) above in one or both of the following :
(i) experience in Librarianship in a recognized Library;
(ii) research in Library and Information Sciences
And
5. At least the minimum marks laid in the Marking Scheme for the post of Librarian
(1) A Degree with specialization in the relevant subject with First or Second Class (Upper Division) Honours and at least 01 year experience in teaching/research/professional work/postgraduate studies.
OR
(2) A Degree with specialization in the relevant subject with Second Class (Lower Division) Honours and at least 01 year experience in teaching/ research/ professional work/ postgraduate studies
OR
(3) (a) A degree with specialization in the relevant subject-without Honours or any other degree with at least Second Class Honours, and (b) A Postgraduate Degree of at least 02 academic years duration in the relevant subject with a research component by way of thesis/ dissertation;

(4) Such academic or professional qualifications or professional experience as may be approved by
the University Grants Commission upon the recommendation of the Higher Educational Institution concerned.
Notes:
(a) An applicant who is eligible under (2) or (3) above could be considered for appointment only if applicants qualified under (1) above are either not available or evaluated and considered as unsatisfactory by the Selection Committee. Such appointment would require a special justification and approval of the University Grants Commission.
(b) An applicant recruited with a Degree with specialization in the relevant subject and First or Second Class (Upper Division) Honours and Master's Degree of 02 academic years duration with a research component by way of thesis/dissertation may be placed one (01) step above the initial of the B-04 salary scale.
(c) An applicant recruited with a Degree with specialization in the relevant subject with First or Second Class (Upper Division) Honours and a Doctoral Degree may be placed two (02) steps above the initial of the B-04 salary scale.
(1) Candidates shall possess the academic qualifications required for Lecturer (Probationary) Non- (Medical/Dental) as specified under post 2 in this document.
AND
(2) (i) A Master's Degree in the relevant field obtained after a full-time course of study of at least two academic years (or an equivalent part-time course of study) with a research component by way of thesis/dissertation or a Doctoral Degree.
In the case of Faculties of Arts, Humanities, Social Sciences, Law and Management/Business Studies a Master's Degree of one year's duration in the relevant field may be accepted when combined with an evaluated research record in conformity with current guidelines.

(ii) Such professional qualifications and experience as may be approved by the University Grants Commission upon the recommendation of the Higher Educational Institution concerned.
AND
(3) At least six (06) years experience in one or more of the following:-
(i) Teaching at University Level,
(ii) Professional experience,
(iii) Research in a recognized Institution,
(iv) Postgraduate Studies to acquire the qualifications stipulated at (2) above.
(i) A first or second class in the B.Sc. special degree in Computer Science/Computer Engineering from a recognized University:

The holders of the post of Librarian and Senior Lecturer Grade II and above are eligible for one year of sabbatical leave with full pay or two years of leave without pay on completion of seven years of service with full passage for self and spouse.
Appointee will become a contributor to the "The Buddhist and Pali University Provident Fund" contributing 10% of the monthly salary. The University will contribute 15% and 3% of the monthly salary to the Buddhist and Pali University Provident Fund and Employees' Trust Fund respectively.

Medical facilities
The appointees of the above posts should sign a bond for five years of continuous service from the date of the first appointment with the university as per the 325th council decision on 29.05.2012.
