Indicated below are the Prizes and Scholarships that have been established for  Annual Awards

 I.          Vice Chancellor's Prize

Founded by the Venerable Dr. Kakkapalliye Anuruddha Thero, the first Vice Chancellor of the University, th

is scholarship is awarded to the student who is chosen as the most brilliant of the year and who has achieved a first class pass at the Special Arts Degree Examination in whatever field of study of the University.  When the scores of those who have achieved first class passes are equal, the student who has scored the highest marks in the subsidiary subject of the programme should be selected as the most brilliant.    

II.         H.M. Tissera Memorial Prize

This prize is awarded to the student who has received his education in the English medium.  It has been founded by the wife and children of the late Mr. H.M. Tissera, the first Registrar of the Buddhist and Pali University of Sri Lanka, in his memory.

             III.       P. Subasinghe Prize 

This prize is awarded to the student, who having studied the Certificate Course in English, has scored the highest marks.  It has been founded by Mr. P. Subasinghe, the first Bursar of the University to confer merit to his departed parents, Mr. & Mrs. H. Subasinghe.  

IV.       The Pimbure Sri Wagishwera Maha Nayaka Thero Prize and the Kalukondayawe  
            Sri Pragnasekehara Maha Nayaka Prize

            These two prizes have been established by the Venerable Katugahehene Dhammapala Thero in memory of his teachers/preceptors.  Of the two prizes, the Pimbure Sri Vagishwera Maha Nayaka Thero Prize is awarded to the student who has read for the Special Degree in Pali Language and Literature and has scored the highest while the Kalukondayawe Sri Pragnasekehara Maha Nayaka Thero Prize is awarded to the student who has read for the Special Degree in Buddhist Philosophy and scored the highest marks.

 V.        Mulin Liyanage Memorial Prize

             This is funded by Mr. W.P. Liyanage, who is resident in London, in memory of Mrs. Mulin Liyanage.  This prize is awarded to the student who has scored the highest marks for the Question paper on  Buddhist Social Philosophy b  (401) of the Special Arts Degree (Buddhist Philosophy).

 VI.       Nichren-Shu Scholarship

             This scholarship, funded by the Nichren-Shu of Japan is donated to students with the relevant qualifications and engaged in research work.

 VII.      The Most Venerable Sirimalwatte Ananda Maha Nayaka Memorial Prize

             One Prize is awarded to the student who scores the highest marks for Question Paper 302 at the Second Trimester Examination of the General Arts Degree, while the other prize is granted to the student who scores the highest marks for the Question Paper 302 at the Second Trimester Examination of the  General Arts Degree.

 VIII.     The Korean National Venerable Hey John Thero Schoarship

             This scholarship is awarded to the three students who score the highest marks at the Second Trimester Examination of the Special Arts Degree in Pali, Buddhist Philosophy and Buddhist Culture for a period of 10 months (No discrimination on local or foreign basis).

 IX.       Muhandiram M.G. Perera and Mrs. Perera Memorial Scholarship

            The above mentioned Prize is funded by lawyer Herman G. Perera in memory of his parents, and is awarded to the student who scores the highest marks in the Postgraduate Diploma Examination on Buddhist Studies.

 X.         Kiriwathtuduwe Sri Pragnasara Prize

             This prize is donated by Venerable Kumburugamuwe Vajira Thero, the former Vice Chancellor, and  is awarded to the student who scores the highest marks for the Question Paper on the Early   Buddhism – Problems of Interpretation.
