PROJECT ON EMPOWERMENT OF RURAL PEOPLE – 2015
6th PHASE – Nawalapitiya
Buddhist Counselling Programme was held in order to Empower Rural Villagers Nawalapitiya area on 23rd, 24th, 25th, 26th by Buddhist and Pali University of Sri Lanka. It was organized by the 3rd year students who follow Buddhist Counselling in the Univeristy under the guidance of the coordinator of the project, W.P.L.M. Nilushika. The programme aimed at the target groups Divisional Secretariet - Nawalapitiya, Police Station -Nawalapitiya, St. Andrews Girls' College. Anuruddha Kumara National School, Sri Sugatha Dharmodaya Dhamma School, Sri Dhammarathana Pirivena for the piriven Students and the villagers in the area.
In this Project the students who follow Buddhist Counselling Course presented lectures and activities on the topics, Stress Management, Anger Management, Meditation for Mental Relaxation, Is Punishment Needed? Let's succeed in our family life and professional life, improving the memeory, Youth is wonderful. The Presentation skills of the students were highly developed through this programme. A Drama Therapy programme was conducted by the resource personnel lecturer Kumudu Ekanayaka, Lecturer Prsanna Kamalasiri, Lecturer Gamini Hemachandra with the students of Buddhist Counselling Course.
This Programme was a great help in order to improve counselling skills of the students and it immensely helped to improve the characteristics of a counsellor. Although the programme aimed at improving the students' skills related to counselling it helped to solve the problems of police officers, school students, officers in the divisional secretariat and the other people who participated in the programme. The programme was appreciated by the OIC – Police station Nawalapitiya, Secretary - Divisional Secretariat Nawalapitiya, The Principle – St. Andrews Girls' School and the common people in the Nawalapitiya area.
