Librarian's Message
The services and resources that the library of the Buddhist and Pali University provide are the bedrock on which the Buddhist community builds its high standard of learning, teaching and conducting research. The library today combines traditional roles with an ongoing commitment to transformation of its facilities and services in order to assist the University in fulfilling its objectives and mission. To achieve this, the library shall effort considerably to support to its fullest extent the University's aspiration, to retain, and ultimately increase, its standing as one of the best Buddhist Universities in the world. The basic characteristic of a good academic library is its total identification with its institution because the measure of its excellence is determined by the extent to which its resources and services support the academic pursuits of the institution.
We understand that our library plays a critical role in supporting learning and the creation and dissemination of new scholarly resources all over the world. It is used as a dynamic instrument for explaining and expanding the horizons of knowledge on the teachings of the Buddha. It is a well known fact that the library exist in a rapidly changing environment. As such we have to preserve past knowledge while offering the latest resources, services and make use of the Information Technology in dissemination of information. To meet this challenge, it necessitates acquiring extensive and appropriate resources, enabling ready and straightforward access to them, and using both traditional and cutting-edge methods of acquisition, access and delivery of service to users.
All these include systems and processes that could be used to acquire, organize, store, access, retrieve, teach and disseminate knowledge and information in all formats, both traditional and digital. Access to scholarly resources and information services to the students, users, faculty and staff is our primary goal. In reaching this, we will attempt to address the ongoing needs for new electronic content and archival collections. New technologies are currently being implemented and will enhance the library services ‘to the user community in the university.
The services of the library to users will be improved and developed and will take account of users' needs to a much greater extent than before. Staff providing the services will have apposite skills, will work flexibly and responsively.
