Any institution in foreign countries, conducting courses of study for examinations  of the University, on confirming to By-Laws on the recognition of foreign institutions may be recognized and registered as an Affiliated College of the University. Presently, there are two foreign higher educational  institutions affiliated to this University leading for the University's examinations in Singapore and U.K.

These examinations are held annually during the month of August. Applications for registration close in the month of June of the preceding year.                                                                                                     

Minimum requirements for registration:

Applicants should have at least  passed the G.C.E. (O/L) with Religion as a subject or any recognized examination approved by the Senate.

Registration will be eligible to appear for the examination on the expiry of one year after registration.

 Diploma in Pali

             This examination will consist of the following 4 papers of three hours duration each.

                            I . Pali Language-Grammar and Comprehension

                            II . Pali Literature   I

                            III . Pali Literature  II

                            IV . Unspecified Texts: History of Pali Canonical Literature

   A pass in this examination is recognized as a qualification to register for the B.A Degree (External) examination of the           University.     

 Diploma in Buddhism

            This examination will consist of the following 4 papers of three hours duration each.

                             I . Early Buddhism - Basic Doctrines

                             II . Buddhist Social Dimensions

                             III . Geographical Expansion of Theravada Buddhism

                             IV . Buddhism in Sri Lanka. The Overseas students can opt for Early History of Buddhism up to the Third  
                                    Century B.C.

A Pass in this examination is recognized as a qualification to register for the B.A. Degree examination of this University, provided that the candidate has fulfilled the requirement of passing in Pali Qualifying paper.

POSTGRADUATE EXAMINATIONS

 Postgraduate  Diploma in Buddhist Studies

This examination is held annually during the month of December. Application for registration close in the month of December of the preceding year.

 Eligibility for Registration

A Degree of a recognized University or Pracina Pundit Degree.

 Successful completion of this examination will be considered as a qualification for the registration for the M.A. Degree.

Examination:  Within one year of registration. Five question papers each of three hours duration.  Candidates could select five units from the following Study Units:

Buddhist Studies: A Degree from a recognized University with any one of the following: Buddhist Culture/Civilization, Buddhist Philosophy, Philosophy OR  Pracina Pundit Degree OR Postgraduate Diploma in Buddhist Studies from a recognized University

Pali: A Degree from a recognized University with Pali as a subject  OR  Pracina Pundit Degree

Sanskrit: A Degree from a recognized University with Sanskrit as a subject  OR  Pracina Pundit Degree

Sinhala: A Degree from a recognized University with Sinhala as a subject  OR  Pracina Pundit Degree

Examination:Within one year of registration.  Five question papers each of three  hours duration

DEGREE EXAMINATIONS

B.A.  DEGREE EXAMINATIONS

This examination is held annually during the month of November or December.

    B.A Degree examination is divided into four parts. They are:

              1. First Year Examination

              2. Second Year Examination

              3. Third Year Examination

              4. Final Year Examination

 For Internal Students

  Candidates should have passed three subjects including a subject related to Buddhist Studies and Pali and any Language, and  minimum marks of 30% for the Common General Paper. Those who not passed Pali in the G.C.E (A/L) Examination as a subject should fulfill at least one of the following qualifications  in Pali:

        I. The Pracina Prarambha Examination with a Pass in Pali

       II. A Credit Pass in Pali Language at the Mulika Pirivena Avasana Vibhagaya.

       III. A Credit Pass in Pali Language at the G.C.E.(O/L) Examination,

       IV. Pass in Pali Diploma conducted by the Buddhist & Pali University of Sri Lanka

      For Foreign Students ( Internal):

Candidates  who are pronounced eligible by the Commissioner General of Examinations  should have obtained.

  1. (a) Candidates should have passed G.C.E .(A/L) Examination in at least 3 subjects including Pali and either a subject in the field of Buddhism or any other language.

                                            AND

           (b).A minimum marks of 30% for the Common General Paper

                                            OR

  1. (a). Candidates who have passed G.C.E.(A/L) Examination in at least 3 subjects including either a subject in the field of Buddhism or any other language and without the subject of Pali should have passed any one of the following qualifications in Pali:
  1. Passed in three Languages at the Pracina Prarambha Examination 
  2. A Credit Pass in Pali Language  at the Mulika Pirivena Avasana Vibhagaya.
  3. A Credit Pass in Pali Language at the G.C.E.(O/L) Examination,
  4. Passed in Pali Diploma conducted by the Buddhist & Pali University of Sri Lanka.

                                            AND

          (b).A minimum marks of 30% for the  Common General Paper

                                              OR

  1. (a)  Candidates should have passed the G.C.E.(A/L) Examination
  • Examination conducted by the University of London or any other examination, Certificate as equivalent to G.C.E.(A/L)
  • Examination in Sri Lanka by the High Commissioner of the particular country or the Commissioner General of Examinations in Sri Lanka.

(b). Candidates who have obtained the qualifications as per Para  3 (a) above without the subject  of Pali should pass an One Year Certificate Course in Pali conducted by the Buddhist & Pali University of Sri Lanka  or possess any other qualifications in Pali equivalent to the above Certificate Course.

  3. Should have passed three subjects  at the Mulika Pirivena Avasana Vibhagaya.   OR
  4. A Degree of a recognized University or an equivalent Qualification accepted by the Senate of this University   OR
  5. Any other examination with a subject related to Buddhist Studies certificated by the  Commissioner General of Examinations in Sri Lanka as equivalent to G.C.E.(A/L) Examination

  For Foreign Students

  1. Should have obtained one of the above qualifications specified under 1-5 for local students
  2. Should have passed G.C.E.(A/L) Examination conducted by the University of London or any other  Examination, Certificate by the High  Commissioner of the particular country or Commissioner General of Examinations in Sri Lanka including a subject related to Buddhist Studies as equivalent to G.C.E.(A/L) Examination.
