Admission to the University
Courses:
The First Degree programme starts with one year General Arts Qualifying Programme and the General Degree can be completed within two years and the Special Degree can be completed within three years.
General Arts Qualifying Exam
Consists of six papers of 3 hour duration based on three subjects. Pali Language and Literature is compulsory with one of the following subjects. Either Buddhist Philosophy or Buddhist Culture.
Special Degree Exam in Arts
Consists of three parts namely Degree I, II and III. Each part consists of 4 papers of 3 hour duration on Buddhist Philosophy, Buddhist Culture, Archaeology, Pali Language and Literature and Sanskrit Language and Literature. One of the Following subjects can be selected for the Special Degree Examination in Arts. They are Buddhist Philosophy, Buddhist Culture, Archaeology, Pali Language and Literature and Sanskrit Language and Literature.

Registration for the Courses of Study
All students who are admitted to the University should at first register themselves as students of the University. Thereafter at the beginning itself of each academic year, they should renew their registration for the relevant courses of study. The registration of the first year students who do not attend classes during a period of one month from the beginning of the academic year will be cancelled, and action will be taken to admit other students to the vacancies.
If a student who has registered himself for some course of study, does not attend classes owing to reasons of ill-health, he should keep the medical officer of the University informed. The student may apply for the postponement of the registration to the next year by letter addressed to the Dean of the relevant Faculty with a recommendation of the Medical Officer. The decision on such an application will be taken by the Senate on the recommendation of the Board of that Faculty.
Along with the first registration, a Student’s Report Book will be issued to each student, who should keep it in safe custody. Charges and other fees for the first registration and for the renewal of registration for subsequent years will be informed to the students. Applications received after the due date will be rejected.
Students are advised to obtain from the library, the subject-mix relating to each course of study and details of the syllabi.
If a problem arises in the process of selecting subjects, the students are advised to consult the heads of departments.
Reading for a full-time course of study in another educational institution during the period of study in this University will cause the invalidation of studentship
